Rite and Séance: Exploring Central and West African Art

The 150 Franklin Gallery welcomes you to explore the regions of Central and West Africa for September only as we celebrate the coming autumnal equinox.

Find out what interesting ingredients could be embedded in the Kifwebe masks (Songye, Democratic Republic of Congo) and for what purposes they are enacted during performances.

Learn about why the bellies of the Songye figures are often protruding, and while you're at it observe the contrasting style of the Ashanti fertility figure of Ghana.

September 1-31.

Exhibition curated by Adriana Hammond.
